Destiny beta

Well with the Destiny beta arriving on Xbox I’ve finally managed to get my hands on it. I’ll admit to being sceptical about the game in general and am happy to say that most of those fears have been swept aside by the quality of the beta. The graphics are crisp (although not at final release resolution), colourful and varied; gameplay is smooth and exciting; and the other players seem to be having fun and are helpful which is always good to see.

So what do you get in the beta? The tower which is your general hub for trade and relaxation. One main area to explore, which is of quite a decent size and contains a variety of enemies of different levels to cut a swathe through over several several missions. The Crucible, a multiplayer arena for 6v6 matches which is where I’ve spent the least amount of time so far. Finally a selection of three playable races, three classes and some weaponry.

The weapons seem to be available to everyone, with only special moves being class specific which is a little strange and I’m not sure if this will follow on through to the final release or not, but it does give everyone a chance to put up a fight in a standard way. With combat straight forward first person shooter in style it still manages to fit seamlessly into the MMO style of game.

With an all star cast it is definitely looking like Bungies first big outing since Halo is of the highest quality and will undoubtedly end up being a success. I can’t wait to get my hands on the full game.
